Russian Verb Conjugations

Verb conjugations tables for Russian, based off Oxford Beginner's Russian Dictionary (1 ed.). Convenient for study and reference.

The charts here show the present tense conjugations for different types of verbs. They should be sufficient for teaching you identify the different classes of verbs in Russian. You can view complete conjugation tables on wiktionary. Consider also purchasing the The Big Silver Book of Russian Verbs which contains example sentences for 500 common words in Russian.

The -e- conjugation

чита́ть "read"
Table 18 Singular Plural
1st person чита́|ю чита́|ем
2nd person чита́|ешь чита́|ете
3rd person чита́|ет чита́|ют
Stress is on the stem.

Other examples: лови́ть "catch", меша́ть "mix/hinder" не́рвничать "be nervous, fret"

сия́ть "shine"

3rd person сия́|ет сия́|ют
Verbs of this type differ from those belonging to Table 18 only by having a я at the end of the stem, instead of an а.

Other examples: наполня́ть "fill", обгоня́ть "overtake", отправля́ть "send, dispatch"

про́бовать "test/try"

1st person про́б|ую про́б|уем
2nd person про́б|уешь про́б|уете
3rd person про́б|ует про́б|уют
Verbs of this conjugation are not stressed on the suffix -овать.

Other examples: жа́ловаться "complain/lament", иссле́довать "research/study", копи́ровать "copy",

рисова́ть "draw"

Verbs of this conjugation differ from those belonging to Table 20 only in having the stress on the suffix rather than on the stem.

Other examples: целова́ть "kiss", образова́ть "form/make", разочаро́вывать "disappoint"

The -i- conjugation

говори́ть "speak"

3rd person говор|и́т говор|я́т
Verbs of this type differ from those belonging to Table 18 only by having a я at the end of the stem, instead of an а.

Other examples: храни́ть "save/guard", вы́стрелить "shoot/fire", ме́рить "measure"

стро́ить "build"

2nd person стро́|ишь стро́|ите
3rd person стро́|ит стро́|ят
Verbs of this conjugation differ from those belonging to Table 22 by ending in a vowel plus -ить

Other examples: кле́ить "glue/paste", сто́ить "cost", расстро́ить "upset/disturb"
